ViGeB*: Promoting diversity. Gender Diversity in the Workplace
-
Employment Challenges of Trans*, Inter* and Non-Binary people with disabilities
Project Duration 01.01.2025 - 31.12.2027
The project aims to gain a better understanding of the needs and challenges of trans*, inter* and non-binary (i.e. TIN*) people in training and working environments. There are hardly any studies on TIN* people who have a disability and/or mental health diagnoses. However, these people appear to be particularly disadvantaged in the labour market. Identifying these specific barriers and support factors is therefore also part of the ViGeB* project. The concept of intersectionality (i.e. the interaction of different discrimination factors) will be given special consideration.
Based on the research results, measures will be developed that aim to improve the participation of TIN* people with severe disabilities and/or mental health diagnoses in working life.
DEFINITIONS
We use trans* as a umbrella term for various self-designations.
In the ViGeB* project, it is important to us to research the different realities of life of trans* men, trans* women, non-binary and inter* people in a differentiated way in order to make their specific barriers and stress factors visible and to work methodically with conceptual differentiations.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT STATEMENT
In order to ensure gender-sensitive research, people from the TIN* community are involved in all phases of the project.
AIM
The aim of the project is to identify and make visible structural barriers, disadvantages and supporting factors that influence access to the labour market and the participation of trans*, inter* and non-binary people in working life.
The survey aims to identify which individual, institutional and social conditions promote or hinder the professional participation of TIN* people. To this end, the life situations and support needs of TIN*-specific life situations, difficulties, conditions and stress factors as well as needs are recorded, as they are themselves a very heterogeneous group.
METHODS
Using a sequential mixed-method design, we combine qualitative and quantitative research methods in order to gain well-founded and practice-relevant insights. Following a detailed literature review and expert interviews, we conduct qualitative guided interviews with TIN* individuals in vocational training centres, companies and the TIN* community. These findings form the basis for a quantitative cross-sectional study that enables us to carry out broad-based analyses and make valid statements.
ACTIONS
Once well-founded findings have been obtained through the mixed-methods approach, the project will develop actions aimed at achieving the sustainable employment of TIN* individuals. As before, we will receive close support from members of the TIN* community and scientific monitors.
From autumn 2027, practical solutions that promote diversity will be available on the homepage under 'MATERIALS'.
